Dr. Barry A. Eisenberg received his Bachelor of Science degree in Ornamental Horticulture from California State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo and his Master of Science and Ph.D. in Horticulture from Ohio State University with a major emphasis in Postharvest Physiology. Barry has combined his academic, industry, and interaction with government groups to become a leader in the areas of food safety, quality systems, the Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA), auditing, training,
and risk assessments for retail, wholesale, and foodservice companies. Dr. Eisenberg has been instrumental in developing food safety standards for the industry starting back in 2006. Together with a group of industry and government experts, Barry helped develop food safety standards that are part of the new FSMA. His 25 years of experience in food processing systems have allowed him to develop
customer education/training tools that have helped them prepare and pass third-party, government, and other audits. Barry serves on the Center of Produce Safety research proposal review committee and is a member of the Food Safety and Technology Committees for the Produce Marketing Association, United Fresh, and the Grower Shippers Association. Dr. Eisenberg is committed to assisting food industry companies with field, and processing operations to improve consumer safety by using the latest approved chemicals and procedures.
