The Western Food Safety Conference is committed to the inclusion of people with disabilities participating in the event. Online activities are designed to be accessible, meeting the requirements of the Rehabilitation Act (Section 508). If a person with a disability is requesting reasonable accommodations due to a disability to participate in the event, requests need to be sent to Hartnell College Foundation. Requests for disability accommodations received three business days in advance of the event will be given priority, although an attempt to fulfill all requests will occur.
Day 1: Joseph W. Reardon
Mr. Joseph Reardon currently serves as the Senior Director of Food Safety Programs for the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture. In this role, he works with all 50 Commissioners, Directors, and Secretaires of Agriculture on food safety-related issues.
Mr. Reardon previously served as the Assistant Commissioner for Consumer Protection for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services from 2012 to 2021. He oversaw the divisions responsible for food safety, agricultural emergency response, animal health, and regulation of the structural pest control industry, pesticide use, and various weighing and measuring devices.
Day 2: Dr. Darin Detwiler
Widely regarded as the global conscience of food safety, Dr. Darin Detwiler has spent over 30 years transforming policy, innovation, and tragedy into a legacy of leadership. He is a trusted advisor to the FDA, USDA, CDC, and global food industry leaders, a celebrated author, and a professor of food policy and corporate social responsibility. As founder and CEO of Detwiler Consulting Group, LLC, his influence spans continents and sectors - from regulatory reform to corporate accountability.
Dr. Detwiler’s impact is deeply personal and globally recognized. He has served in advisory and leadership roles for government agencies and industry think tanks, helping to shape the systems that protect millions of lives. His books, including Food Safety: Past, Present, and Predictions and Building the Future of Food Safety Technology, are widely cited in both academic and professional circles.
When it comes to food safety, there are experts…and then there is Dr. Detwiler. His voice is not only authoritative; it is essential.
