Highland Ag Solutions: A Mission to Help Agriculture in the Digital Space
Highland Ag Solutions (HAS) is on a mission to help farmers and growing operations reach their full potential in the digital world. Founder Steve Maxwell knew the idea was simple, follow the same formula that he created for his produce packaging business. He went to work to build an environment where agricultural business owners, marketers and packinghouse managers could get everything needed in one place, with a service model that put them first.
The team at HAS created Highland Hub, a comprehensive and innovative software platform thatvirtualizes the business of agriculture with products that address many of the industry’s pain points.
Compliance Tracker
Highland’s newest product focuses on enhancing visibility and audit readiness. Consultants, brokers, and growers play a vital role in assisting their customers with achieving and maintaining compliance. To facilitate this process and provide improved visibility into client food safety audits, this tool provides centralized management, enhanced visibility, alerts, and notifications in a secure environment.
Food Safety FS365
Food Safety FS365 offers the tools needed to ensure an entire operation’s documentation is audit ready, 365 days a year. With custom permissions and notifications, businesses can monitor their operation from anywhere.
Crop IQ
Crop IQ helps farm managers make informed decisions prior to conducting field activities by providing compliance checks and real-time REI and PHI information. It enhances efficiency with custom field reports, performing inventory transactions, creating customized, printable, and email friendly work orders, pinpointing scouting concerns, and storing multi-product tank mixes for rapid recall and reuse.
Other Products
Supplier Portal organizes company suppliers and their documents. An export feature sends supplier documentation requests to suppliers with an external link, avoiding the hunt for the right information.
Site Details is a tool to create and view area maps and custom maps. Customers can also record custom planting information for accurate recordkeeping in field activities.
Labs records, organizes, and runs reports on water and soil sample testing.
Scouting Reports identifies field-wide concerns. Customers can drop a pin in a field notating the pest, disease, nutrient deficiency, broken sprinklers, or other issues. Attaching pictures and notes helps customers determine an improved plan of action.
“We’re introducing powerful technologies making agriculture more transparent, more predictable and less costly to help growers thrive today and plan smart for tomorrow,” says Maxwell.

AgroThrive is built on the belief that all organic wastes can be converted to safe and nutritious organic fertilizers.
Dragan Macura (M. Sc.) founder and CEO, has taken his passion for food safety, organic integrity, and environmental stewardship to a professional level establishing AgroThrive Inc. in Salinas Valley, CA in 2006. Progressive Digestion Process (PDP), the main technology behind AgroThrive, is the scientific bridge between industrial food waste and liquid organic fertilizer in 21 days. PDP harnesses the digesting power of microbes in spoiled organic wastes, creates biological heat that eliminates all pathogens, and reduces reliance on chemicals in soil. Our organic ingredients include concentrated plant proteins, fish and seafood waste, and other nutrients. PDP has the unique ability to convert the most difficult to handle organic materials into beneficial organic fertilizers. Thus, PDP is an innovative technology closing the loop between food waste and food production. AgroThrive is used on both certified organic and conventional acreage. AgroThrive is proud to play a significant part in environmental stewardship. The quality of the food we eat is very important, and so is the impact we leave on the environment. That’s why our goal is to build a better world for us today and for our children and grandchildren tomorrow by reducing reliance on heavy chemical and pesticide use in agriculture. Our facility in Salinas Valley, CA is also completely solar-powered.

In 1994, PrimusLabs began its foray into auditing by developing G.A.P. manuals, and in 1996, the company became an early force in the produce industry for field-level food safety plans. It was the first American company to offer auditing for farms and harvest crews and became an early and strong advocate for complete programs for farms and ranches. Over the next few years, PrimusLabs began offering food industry plans, and GMP audits and consultation for processing plants, cooling and cold storage facilities, packing sheds, terminal markets and distribution centers. These audits were known as PrimusLabs Standard audits.
The firm provided extensive expertise in the form of “guides” used throughout the industry and by governmental food safety agencies. Thus, Primus Laboratories advanced the concept of preventing contamination at the earliest point in the production chain, rather than limiting the focus to downstream packing or processing operations, a concept not acknowledged by the FDA until 2011 with the passage of FSMA.
In 1998, Primus launched the web-based Document Development Program (DDP) allowing clients to create safe production manuals free of charge in exchange for the use of their data gathered through the program. While most companies copyrighted their audit schemes, Primus never did so, choosing instead to allow growers, farm managers, and other interested individuals the opportunity to run self-audits.
By the turn of the millennium, PrimusLabs developed programs allowing the submission of data generated from sub-contracted auditors, in addition to its in-house personnel. That number has grown to nearly 100 in-house and subcontracted auditors.
In 2006, auditing services were expanded to Mexico, and later to Costa Rica and Chile. In 2008, Javier Sollozo was promoted to the position of Director of Auditing Operations. In 2011, its PrimusGFS audit was benchmarked by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). In 2013, PrimusLabs’ Audit QA became the largest in the industry.
In March 2015, prompted by a new requirement of GFSI’s Benchmarking Committee in response to the request to re-benchmark the PrimusGFS version 2.1., PrimusLabs sold its Auditing Division to Javier Sollozo, who launched JS Audit Group, Inc. doing business as Primus Auditing Ops.
The new company maintains all of PrimusLabs’ personnel, as well as over 20 years of auditing expertise in farm – level produce audits, but it has also expanded its focus to include auditing of semi-processed, and fully processed produce foods, e.g. juices, salsas etc.
While it evolves, Primus Auditing Ops maintains its promise to serve its clients with objective, thorough, and accurate audits. Our mission is simple – Observe. Report.
