For nearly 100 years, Duda Farm Fresh Foods has been a leading grower, shipper, processor, and marketer of fresh vegetables and citrus. Known for its superior celery, the company has expanded its facilities over the years to accommodate recent developments such as celery juicing and other health and wellness trends to provide consumers with the freshest celery possible. Triangle Farms and JV Farms Organic are custom-growing operations based out of the Salinas Valley. Triangle and JVO have a diverse crop portfolio with over 30 different crops being grown across their ranches spreading from Salinas to San Lucas. The primary commodities for the two companies consist of romaine lettuce, head lettuce, and broccoli. Approximately 80% of the crops are conventionally farmed under Triangle and about 20% are organically grown by JVO. Triangle Farms and JV Farms Organic are both a part of the JV Smith Companies family. The JV Smith Companies team first began in 1970 and has since grown to ten companies spread throughout California, Arizona, Colorado, and Mexico. CSUMB's College of Science leverages the unique strengths of the Monterey Bay region to provide an inclusive and hands-on learning environment that cultivates discovery, social responsibility, and lifelong learning.

California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) is excited to announce the arrival of the Agricultural Plant and Soil Sciences B.S. program. With generous support from the surrounding agricultural community, we now have the ability to allow our local students to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in such a relevant and important industry to the surrounding community. CSUMB continuously acts as a pillar of the Central Coast by providing higher education degrees in a variety of relevant fields. With the addition of the Agricultural Plant and Soil Sciences program, we are hoping to implement change throughout the Salinas Valley and the surrounding region by training the next generation of local agricultural stewards, researchers, producers, and advocates.

The Agricultural Plant and Soil Sciences program will prepare students on key issues facing stakeholders throughout the Salinas Valley including production management, technological innovation, and food safety. Emphasis will be placed on ensuring the continued success of economically important crops grown throughout the Central Coast while promoting sustainability at the social, environmental, and economic levels. Students will be exposed to intensive lab-based and hands-on research learning to ensure they are adequately prepared to contribute to the future of agriculture and solve current and emerging issues.
