Conrad Choiniere, PhD, Day 2 Keynote Speaker
Conrad Choiniere, PhD, is the Director of the Office of Microbiological Food Safety which has the responsibility of developing and implementing strategies for the prevention of foodborne illness. With over 20 years at FDA, 14 of those in foods, he has extensive experience leading FDA regulatory initiatives. Prior to his current role, Dr. Choiniere served as the Acting Deputy Director for Regulatory Affairs for the former Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), overseeing food safety, outbreak response, compliance and dietary supplements; and as the Director of the Office of Analytics and Outreach (CFSAN), providing executive leadership for a broad portfolio of scientific and regulatory functions, including risk and decision analysis, social and behavioral sciences, consumer education and outreach, food defense, biostatistics and bioinformatics. He led the agency’s efforts to reduce heavy metals in foods, and through his work in Closer to Zero, he has demonstrated success with implementing the levers of FDA’s authorities and processes to develop and implement a comprehensive and cohesive strategy for the management of risks in the food supply. Conrad holds a doctorate in agricultural economics from the University of Maryland and a bachelor’s in chemical engineering from the Johns Hopkins University.
