iFood DS

Back to Partners

Our company started as part of iDecisionSciences(iDS), a Seattle-based consulting practice — whose principals first came to the produce food safety scene in 2006 following the outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 associated with spinach.

In the ensuing years, iDS worked closely with national and regional produce associations to develop food safety best practices and metrics for leafy greens as well as other major produce commodities. Out of this work, iFoodDecisionSciences, Inc. was launched to provide software solutions that produce companies need to manage the extensive data requirements of their food safety programs.

iFoodDecisionSciences (iFoodDS) was formed in 2013

in recognition of the industry’s need to move beyond static safety records to a dynamic platform that could enable proactive safety practices and real-time management of risks across the food supply chain for operations of any scale.

The combined company now offers a comprehensive food supply chain platform for food safety, traceability, and quality management. iFoodDS enables hundreds of participants across the global food supply chain – grower/shippers, packers, processors, distributors, foodservice and grocery retailers – to optimize the safety, quality, and value of their offerings with real-time supply chain visibility and the confidence they are supporting industry best practices.

This is ultimately about the consumer. iFoodDS software systems promote the advancement of continuous food safety and quality improvements on the farm, in processing facilities, and throughout the supply chain so consumers can reach for these healthy foods with confidence.

Keeping it Fresh since 1930

The Foxy brand is four generations in the making. Since the early 1930s, the Nunes family has been practicing innovative farming methods in California’s Salinas Valley.

Bob and Tom Nunes pioneered the practice of film-wrapping lettuce in plastic for freshness after forming Nunes Brothers of California in 1966. After selling the company, Nunes Company, Inc. was formed in 1976.

Since then, farming acreage has increased to more than 20,000 crop acres in California, Arizona and Nevada as the Foxy brand was created to help introduce our produce to families throughout the United States and the world.

WHO WE ARE

WHO WE ARE

WHO WE ARE

WHO WE ARE

It’s easy to take food safety for granted, and assume the standards were always high. In reality, standards were quite open to interpretation. But when it comes to bacteria, safe and unsafe is black and white. Standards needed to be reinforced by guidelines that ensured food remained safe from seed to sale.

AG Food Safety Solutions (AGFSS) grew out the need to remove food safety decisions from the corporate boardroom and connect them to farming realities. As a dialogue emerged between corporate buyers and agricultural producers, AGFSS became part of the conversation that shaped food safety guidelines that remain the standard today.

It would have been impossible to implement food safety without understanding life on a farm. After immigrating from Mexico, Gabriela Sandoval’s father was leased land by a farmer after his knack for crops like tomatoes and onions was clear. It didn’t take long before he was known as a top producer.

Growing up in the 1970’s running between the row crops and cherries, Gabriela watched her parents manage not only their farm but the contracting service that provided its labor, as well as the labor of surrounding agricultural partners.

With AG Food Safety Solutions now established, it’s time to focus on making life easier for agricultural producers via strong partnerships and emerging technologies.

California LGMA

California LGMA brings farmers together to make lettuce and leafy greens safer. The LGMA verifies food safety practices, enforces through government audits, and requires a commitment to continuous improvement. Working collaboratively with university and industry scientists, food safety experts, government officials, farmers, shippers and processors, the LGMA created a unique and rigorous science-based food safety system that protects public health by reducing potential sources of contamination and establishes a culture of food safety on the farm.

LGMA members are companies that ship and sell California-grown lettuce, spinach and other leafy greens products. The California LGMA has a sister program in Arizona that is almost identical.
